e.Volution takes over operations of insolvent Nob Manufacturing GmbH

Aachen/Düren, January 6, 2024 - e.Volution GmbH, owned by Prof. Günther Schuh and based in Aachen, has taken over the operations and assets of Nob Manufacturing GmbH as of January 1, 2024, as stated by the insolvency administrator Dr. Dirk Wegener (dphg),  immediately after the opening of insolvency proceedings against the company. For the transaction, e.Volution has entered into a strategic partnership with Neapco, which assembles the electric delivery vehicles, formerly known as StreetScooters, as a contract manufacturer in Düren, Germany. Neapco has acquired the equipment for vehicle assembly in Düren from the DHL Group.

An order from the DHL Group for the purchase of 700 e-vehicles has made it possible to continue operations and secure jobs at Nob, Neapco and other suppliers. The DHL Group also quickly created the conditions for commissioning and selling key operating resources to e.Volution, which it had previously owned.

"The case was quite complicated because many partners such as DHL and numerous key suppliers had to be involved who were not directly involved in the insolvency of Nob, but without whose cooperation a rescue would not have been possible," says Dirk Wegener, summarizing the last-minute agreements. "There was a lot to moderate and motivate in this process." Thomas Hissel, First Alderman and Economic Development Officer of the City of Düren and Marcel Philipp, former Lord Mayor of the City of Aachen and now a partner in the e.Volution team, were delighted with the great interest and strong support from the federal government through Dietmar Nietan, Member of the German Parliament, and the Ministry of Economic Affairs of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia in the preservation and further development of the "StreetScooter innovation" from North-Rhine Westphalia.

Prof. Günther Schuh and his company e.Volution are pursuing the goal of introducing superior sustainability to the automotive industry through the extreme longevity of vehicles. Together with RWTH Aachen University, the company has developed an upgrade reassembly process that enables existing vehicles to be regularly upgraded at low cost thanks to a particularly durable chassis and a digital vehicle file. This concept would be particularly effective for small, heavily used commercial vehicles. "The stress on StreetScooters in daily operation is higher than on any other light commercial vehicle. This is where our concept can have an exemplary effect and significantly improve the ecological footprint over the life cycle while reducing operating costs," explains Prof. Günther Schuh. "I am very grateful to DHL Group and especially its CEO Dr. Tobias Meyer for his support in this transaction, which gives us the opportunity to take the joint innovation of Deutsche Post and RWTH Aachen University from 10 years ago to the next level.”

With this strategic takeover of an ongoing production process, e.Volution's reassembly concept can now be put into practice much faster.
